Meteorology Students Chosen For National Conference

CALIFORNIA, Pa. (January 29, 2003)…Three students from California University’s  department of Earth Sciences, meteorology concentration, were recently selected to participate as work-study assistants at the national meeting of the American Meteorological Society in Long Beach, California, February 9-13.

Patrick Taylor (Liverpool, Pa.), Neil Barton (Columbia, Pa.) and Dustin Devine (South Park, Pa.) were notified of their selection at the end of the fall semester.  The student assistant program allows the students to stay at an officially sanctioned hotel for the duration of the conference. The students also have their registration fees waived and are given per diem. The only expense paid by the student is travel. Taylor, Barton and Devine will also be representing the local chapter of the AMS at California University (Southwest Pennsylvania Chapter). They will attend the Local Chapters' breakfast Tuesday, February 11, and participating in the Local Chapter's Interactive Town Hall.

The American Meteorological Society promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. Founded in 1919, AMS has a membership of more than 11,000 professionals, professors, students and weather enthusiasts. AMS publishes nine atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic journals — in print and online — sponsors more than 12 conferences annually, and offers numerous programs and services.
