Why Psychology?

Why do you like heavy metal and you’re best friend is into country? Why do Aunt Mary and Uncle Ed always disagree about everything? Why do we do the things we do? Psychology helps us to understand behavior, our own behavior and that of others. We can use what we learn in psychology to help us improve relationships, understand why we do what we do when we do it, and get a better understanding of others.

Research done by psychologists has had tremendous impact on the way that we live and the quality of our lives. Thanks to research originated by psychologists we know that babies do better when they are touched, massaged and held. This knowledge, when applied to premature babies, has allowed them to respond and go home quicker.

These are just a few of the many opportunities available to people with degrees in psychology. Cal U offers a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in psychology, and you can choose from two areas of concentration—general psychology or industrial/organizational psychology. Both provide training in the theories and practices of psychology, combined with a liberal arts background. There are approximately 225 undergraduate psychology majors.
