Dear Modern Language Teachers:
The department of Modern Languages and Cultures will be sponsoring our Annual Modern Language Day on Tuesday March 31, 2009. The time for this event is 9:00am until 1:00pm. The lists of competitive activities include reading of prose, poetry, a poster competition, and a drama presentation. Enclosed please find the readings of prose that the students are to recite. They are also on our website: http://www.cup.edu/liberalarts/languages/index.jsp. The theme for the Modern Language and Culture day is “Our country: the United States”. All posters must be received no later than March 24, 2009.
Any level of language study may participate. We ask that you include as many cultural and literary references as possible in the drama skits. Please be as innovative as possible by including music, group scenes, photos of specific scenes of the country represented in the skit, and native costumes. The allotted time for the dramatic presentation is five to seven minutes maximum. The theme for the drama skit is also “Friendship.”
We ask that the reading of prose and/or poetry be done by students in an upper level of language study. The judges will be scoring based on pronunciation, intonation, interpretation, and fluidity of the presentation. The language level of the student will be considered in judging. All decisions of the judges are final.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Modern Languages and Cultures Department at (724) 938-4246 or email holmes@cup.edu.
Thank you in advance for your support in making the program a success.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mariana Pensa, MLD Faculty Advisor
Darla R. Holmes, MLD Event Coordinator
