Awards

  • Minor Major Award (given to an exemplary English major in her/his junior year);
  • Hibbs Award (given to the author of what is deemed by a committee to be a superior paper in comp 101 and 102 and given, presumably, each semester);
  • Outstanding English Major (given in conjunction with EAPSU Conference to a superior English major);
  • English Faculty Award (given by faculty to a graduating senior whose work over the long haul has been outstanding);
  • Literary Criticism Award (given to the student who submits an outstanding critical paper on a literary topic).

Honors

Academic excellence is recognized by invitation to join Sigma Tau Delta, the international English fraternity.

The Cal U English department has a functioning chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society. Students are invited to join by virtue of their performance and GPA. The society has an annual induction banquet and it sponsors various literary and artistic events throughout the academic year.
