Admissions
There is a MSW Packet that you can request by either calling the MSW Program office at 724-938-4022 or email the MSW Program Director Dr. Norma Thomas at thomas@calu.edu or download the information on this page and send ALL information to the MSW Program Office.
Upon receiving the MSW Packet, applicants must return the enclosed material before the designated deadline in order to start their admission process into the MSW Program.
Formal Application Requirements
Applicants must meet Graduate School requirements and:
- Complete the School of Graduate Studies and Research Application on line at http://www.calu.edu/graduate/index.jsp
- Complete the MSW Program Application.
- Submit a non-refundable application fee of $25.00.
- Submit three letters of recommendation.
- Submit personal portfolio materials following the guide.
- Submit Original Transcripts from all Colleges/Universities.
- Have earned a bachelor degree from an accredited university or college. Official transcripts must be sent from all colleges attended to the College of Graduate Studies & Research.
- Have completed 30 credits of upper level courses in liberal arts.
- Have a 3.0 average for the last two years of college work as well 3.25 in Social Work for Advanced Standing Applicants. (Applicants with a strong record of work and/or service who were below a 3.0 for Regular admissions or Advanced Standing applicants with less than 3.0 overall GPA and less than 3.25 for Advanced Standing may be considered for conditional acceptance and must maintain a “B” average for their first 12 credits to be fully admitted.)
- Advanced Standing students must have earned a bachelor degree from a CSWE accredited college or university.
- Closing date for filing applications
- Regular Program - Early July, Advanced Standing Early July.
Applications are reviewed, as materials are complete.

- The turn around time is about two weeks after the file has been completed.
- Applicants are notified immediately after the final decision.
- Enrollment semester for new students: August (Regular/Advanced Standing)
Transfer Credit
Prior MSW course work and related graduate course work may be submitted for review. Transfer credits must have been completed within six years of entrance into the program, must have a grade of B or better, and must be the equivalent of any courses they replace. Credit is only given for academic courses that can be validated by an official transcript from a graduate university. No credit is given for life experiences, previous work experiences or non course credit work.
