SPINPLUS at Cal U

Beginning Monday, July 23, 2007, the University community will have access to SPINPlus which includes SPIN, GENIUS, and SMARTS systems.

SPINPlus is a web-based system that includes a database of funding opportunities, investigator profiles, and a matching alert system.

Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN) is a funding opportunities database designed to provide up-to-date information on current national and international government and private funding sources.

Global Expertise Network for Industry, University, and Scholars (GENIUS) is also a web-based system that serves as a registry of institutional talent and expertise to be used to identify interest and expertise for sponsored funding, global partnering, and industry/university partnering.

Spin Matching And Research Transmittal Service (SMARTS) is an electronic matching and funding opportunity notification system which provides investigators with a listing of available funding information which corresponds to the investigators profile of interests.  Matching is conducted on a daily basis and programs are automatically emailed to individual researchers.

To create a GENIUS/SMARTS profile, click SPINPlus tutorial.  Once on the InfoEd GENIUS/SMARTS main page, look under the Help section and click on SPINPlus tutorial. The SPINPlus Quick Reference Guide is also available here.

You can still look under Funding Opportunities for links to other funding agencies, and also copies of News, Notes and Deadlines.

PROCESS FLOWCHARTS

Process flowcharts have recently been added to our website to assist in grant-funded hiring and compensation, and procedure processes.  Click on Hiring and Compensation to view the processes.

OGC Guide Book

The Office of Grants and Contracts has a draft of the new Guide Book for your reference.  To view the draft form of the Guide Book, click here, or click on Policies and Procedures in the right margin.

Presentations, Reports and Forms

On January 2, 2007, the OGC will roll out its new Time & Effort report procedure that establishes the requirements for recording and reporting employee time and effort.  A powerpoint presentation provides an overview of this requirement.  Federal Regulations require that all University employees who are charging less than 100% of their time to a sponsored project submit a Time & Effort Report.  The first report is due February 10, 2007.  Please review the links below to learn about Time & Effort.  If you have any questions, call Kelly Hunt on extension 5364.

Other fillable forms, procedures, and presentations are also found on our website.  Visit Funding Opportunities for information on current RFPs, and a list of funding sources and deadlines.
