Administration Program for Principals - Traditional On Campus Courses at Cal U
Program Philosophy:
Cal U's Administrative Program for Principals (ADP) is the ideal program for working professionals who want to make a difference in education. The ADP program is a practice-centered, performance-based program that is designed to provide a personalized approach in meeting the needs of each student whether they are seeking a principal's certificate, a master's degree in education, or simply wish to continue to enhance their teaching and leadership skills.
Cal U's administrative program is built around a core of standards, known as the Educational Leadership Constituent Council standards, which influence program content, instruction and assessment. These standards for the preparation and development of future school principals have been developed jointly by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and are as follows:
A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by -
Standard 1
Facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
Standard 2
Advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
Standard 3
Ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
Standard 4
Collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
Standard 5
Acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.
Standard 6
Understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
Standard 7
Substantial, sustained, standards-based experiences in real settings that are planned and guided cooperatively by university and school district personnel for graduate credit.
Students work with their advisor to develop an individual concentration of study within their coursework to meet their specific professional goals. Previous professional experience in education and academic background are assessed to determine the program of studies and field experiences for each student. Educators who do not hold a master's degree must complete the Master of Education degree that includes all requirements for certification as a K-12 school principal. If a student already holds a master's degree, he or she may complete certification requirements without completing the entire master's program. This program is designed not only for degree and certification candidates but is available for both teachers and administrators who, as seasoned educators, wish to continue to enhance their teaching and leadership skills. All coursework can be used to complete continuing education requirements under Act 48.

Out of state students are welcome but should first contact their State Department of Education for further information regarding certification requirements and reciprocity agreements.
All students please note,
Completion of an approved certification program is a requirement for certification in PA. In the certification process, the university informs the state that a student has completed the university's state approved program. The state then reviews the student's credentials and determines eligibility for certification. We encourage all students to contact the Pennsylvania Department of Education before beginning Cal U's program for further information about certification requirements in PA.
