Work Study Program
The Work-Study Program at California University offers employment options that allow you to earn money to assist with education expenses, gain valuable work experience, and the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, and community members. There are two separate work-study programs: Federal (awarded only to students who demonstrate financial need) and Institutional (available to all students regardless of need). If you check either “work-study” or "both work-study and student loans" to question #26, you will automatically be considered for student employment. If you did not answer question #26 and want to be considered for employment, contact the Financial Aid Office for a "Work-Study Request form."
Students who are eligible for student employment will receive a work-study eligibility award on their award notice. Generally, positions on-campus allow a student to work a maximum of 8 hours per week at the prevailing minimum wage. Due to limited funding, not all students who are eligible for work-study will be hired. Students are responsible for obtaining their own position by applying in-person, beginning the first week of classes, to the individual departments that have openings. Employment Postings are located on the Financial Aid Office website. Students must bring a copy of their award letter that shows their work-study eligibility to the department when they are applying for a position. Departments have the discretion to hire students who best meet the needs of the job. The Financial Aid Office does not guarantee employment nor place students in positions. Students can print a copy of his/her award letter by accessing the financial aid menu at SISWEB.
Please Note: Work study is NOT applied towards your charges for the academic year. It is only a financial aid resource that when earned, can be used to offset your educational expenses.
California University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
