Admission to Teacher Education
Teacher Education Candidates must have 48-65 earned credits (of completed courses) to apply. Teacher Education Candidates that exceed 65 credits are not eligible to be Admitted to Teacher Education even if they meet the requirements at a later time. Teacher Education Candidates have the responsiblity to change their major to a non-teacher certification major if they miss the Admission Window. Transfer students that enter Cal U with 66 or more credits are given a two-semester extension of their Admission Window to complete all requirements. Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate candidates do not follow this policy. Please see page 11 of the Teacher Education Program Student Handbook for more detailed information.
Applying for a One-Semester Extension of the Admission Window
Some Teacher Education Candidates may not meet their Admission Window and miss their chance to earn an Admission to Teacher Education. In these cases, the Teacher Education Candidates may file an appeal for a one-semester extension. Extensions ar only given if the Teacher Education Candidate can document why Cal U is responsible for the Teacher Education Candidate missing the Admission Window. Please see page 12 of the Teacher Education Program Student Handbook for eligible and non-eligible requirements.
It is the Teacher Education Candidate's responsibility to start the appeal process by completing the Appeal to Extend the Admission Window by One Semester form. This form is to be turned in during the first 20 school days following the missing of the window. Do not complete this form in advance.
PLEASE NOTE: If you were granted an appeal in a previous semester you cannot apply for another. If you were unable to complete your requirements by the deadline that you were given, please contact your advisor/department for your options to continue your teacher education program.
