Act 48 Information
What is Act 48 and who is affected by it?
Act 48 requires all Pennsylvania educators to participate in ongoing professional education. All Pennsylvania educators holding public school certification including: Intern, Instructional I & II, Educational Specialist I & II, Administrative, Supervisory, Letter of Eligibility and all vocational certificates must participate.

California University of Pennsylvania is an approved provider of Act 48 credits/hours. Credited courses taken at California University after January 1, 2000 are applicable to Act 48. Hours from workshops provided at California University after July 1, 2000 also apply.
Special note: California University only submits information to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for courses/workshops completed at California. If you have taken courses at other universities that you would like to count toward Act 48, please contact the institution where you completed the coursework.

Once California University enters the necessary information into the PDE database, a letter of confirmation is sent to the participant. The letter verifies that the credits/hours have been recorded. If the participant's school district requires a copy of the confirmation letter, it is the participant's responsibility to provide it to the district.
