California University of Pennsylvania is proud to offer three 100% online courses, HPE 105 Current Health Issues, and ATE 101 Fundamentals of the Recruiting Process for the College Bound Student Athlete (see course descriptions below and required book list to the right), during the intersession between the Fall and Spring semesters (3 week term). All courses are 3 credits each and students may take any of the courses. Students can take the courses from anywhere they have Internet access.
Most University’s will accept the credits as transfer credits to count towards your degree. You are responsible for determining whether the courses will count towards your general education or free elective requirements. Please consult with your University representatives (advisor, program director, or transfer office) to verify that the credits will be counted towards your degree requirements.
The classes will begin on December 15th, 2008 and will conclude on January 3rd, 2009.

Course Descriptions
HPE 105. CURRENT HEALTH ISSUES. This course is designed to convey information concerning the individual’s role in establishing a healthful lifestyle as well as encouraging a sense of responsibility about that role. The current health framework encompasses topics such as basic fitness and nutrition, the prevention of disease, as well as a focus on healthful living. Topics will be covered in lecture and interactive sessions by the instructor and the health student.
ATE 101 FUNDAMENTALS OF THE RECRUITING PROCESS FOR THE COLLEGE BOUND STUDENT ATHLETE. This course has been designed as a web based offering for the high school principal, counselor, coach, or those seeking a future career in those related fields and for the parent of a student athlete who desires to compete at the collegiate level. This course outlines the various methods a student would go about in his/her attempt to get an athletic scholarship, federal and state financial aid as well as NCAA, NAIA, and junior college requirements for competition. The class also includes specific strategies that the student athlete must learn in order to achieve success in their college experience such as the knowledge of nutrition, goal setting, as well as pitfalls of the incoming freshman adjusting to college life as an athlete.
