Professor Thomas Kinsey
I am currently a Professor in the Department of Health Science and Sport Studies at California University of California. After 7 years as Graduate Dean at Cal and 3 years as Graduate Dean at Buffalo State College (SUNY System), I have returned to my academic roots – faculty. Before that 10 year visit to Academic Administration, I was on the faculty at Buffalo for 19 years. During that time I taught a variety of courses in the areas of Research Methods, Design, Applied Statistics, Assessment and the Process of Scientific Inquiry. I was an active grant writer and I am proud of the $6 Million dollars I was able to bring to programs of interest to me. At Cal I have had a role in the growth of graduate programs and specifically in the development of our online programs. While I am relatively new to teaching online, I have completed the e- Certification course and the Blackboard Certification course. With the support that is available for faculty and staff here at Cal, I’m sure translating my pervious teaching experience into this environment will be accomplished.
I am most eager to get started in this new world of distant learning!!!!
Unlike most of the instructors in this program, I do not have life experiences in the fields similar to yours. I come from a pure scientific background (biology); therefore, my current research interests are more diverse than others. I am interested in higher education in this now “Flat World;” I am interested increasing the quality and comfort level for statistics in the professions related to fitness and wellness; and I interested in helping to organize the high quality in this department at Cal U into a world class research institute.
Although I’m of the 1946 vintage, I am sports fan. As we baby boomers age, I think we will find terms like “Geriatric Jock” we become popular. I consider myself a GJ! In addition to walking 30 miles a week, I bike, hike, fish, kayak (flat water and white water). Lastly, like everyone in the Steelers Nation, I bleed Back and Gold!!!!
