Assistant Professor Mary Popovich
Mary E. Popovich, MS, ATC, EMT-P
Mary E. Popovich has thirty-one years experience in pre-hospital emergency medical services as a field paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic Instructor. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from California University in Athletic Training and has been previously employed as an instructor and assistant athletic trainer for the Department of Health Science and Sport Studies since 1999.
Mary has recently returned to campus to resume instruction in EMT and provide instruction in First Aid to undergraduate students in various degree programs at California. She is a Pennsylvania State Certified Athletic Trainer, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, EMT Instructor, American Heart Association Regional Faculty, and Pennsylvania State Evaluator. In addition, she maintains instructional certificates in American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Pediatric Life Support Programs (BTLS) and is also involved in all aspects of pre-hospital educational programs throughout Westmoreland and Fayette County.
Mary was recently honored at the NATA conference in Baltimore in the category of "Tinactin Tough Case Awards" for her community "pubic access defibrillation project" (Dollars for Defibrillators). She has also received numerous awards for her outstanding performance in the field of emergency medical services in her educational endeavors and field work and is an active member of the Pennsylvania Paramedic Society. In addition, she maintains an active status as a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association (EATA), Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society (PATS), and serves as an elected official for West Newton Borough Council.
Mary lives in West Newton, Pennsylvania with her cat Hermes and has one son Philip. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, baking, biking, dancing, and clowning around.
