Associate Professor Chris T. Harman
Chris Tina Harman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Science and Sport Studies at California University of Pennsylvania. She is responsible for teaching Current Health Issues at the under graduate level and Nutrition for Peak Performance at the graduate level.
Dr. Harman received her undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health Education from the University of Vermont, a Master of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Indiana University, and a Doctoral degree in Higher Education from Oklahoma State University.
Prior to working at California University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Harman served as an Associate Professor and program director of three CAAHEP accredited undergraduate entry-level athletic training education programs; Olivet Nazarene University, The University of Vermont, and Xavier University. Prior to those positions, she began her career teaching grade K – 8 physical education and health at Catholic schools in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Harman has been a licensed and certified athletic trainer since 1987, working at the college and professional levels. These organizations include the Chicago Regional Gymnastics Championship, Vermont Marathon, National Cheerleaders Association, Ohio Mid-Western Ice Skating Championship, NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four, Chicago-land Semi-Professional Football, and Pittsburg Gladiators Arena Football.
Dr. Harman is active as a volunteer in the profession of athletic training. She has served as a member of the Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee and grant reviewer for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Additional roles include conducting accreditation site visits for the Commission for Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Research interests are centered on Developing Critical Thinking Skills in Athletic Training Students, Use of Alternative Medicine in the Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries, and Identifying Barriers to Learning in Distance Education Courses.
Chris’ personal interests include traveling, reading, and outdoor sports.
