Associate Professor Robert Taylor
Robert Taylor is an Associate Professor of Sport Management in the Department of Health Science and Sport Studies at California University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Taylor received his undergraduate degree in Physical Education from San Diego State University. He earned a Master of Education degree from Frostburg State University where he served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. Dr. Taylor earned a Ph.D. in Human Performance with an emphasis in Sport Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi where he also served as a graduate teaching assistant within the Department of Human Performance, as well as fulfilling the duties of camp coordinator for the James Green Basketball Camp.
Dr. Taylor has had the opportunity to experience sports from several perspectives. As an athlete, he served as both player and coach of the Fifth Marines Regimental basketball team at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was also a member of the Third Marine Division basketball team located at Okinawa, Japan. From 1984-1991 he trained and competed as a full time triathlete while residing in San Diego, CA. As a coach, Dr. Taylor has over 10 years experience coaching men's and women's basketball at the high school and collegiate levels. He served as an assistant basketball coach at Crawford High School in San Diego, CA. At Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego he coached basketball, football, and golf. From 1988-2001 Taylor was the women's basketball head coach at California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. He was also an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Cal Baptist, where he taught classes in the Kinesiology undergraduate program and the Sport Leadership graduate program.
Currently at Cal U, Dr. Taylor is responsible for teaching numerous courses such as Sport Finance, Sport Economics, Sport Psychology, Senior Seminar, Sport Governance, and Internship. In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. Taylor is the director of the Cal U Sport Management Kindergarten Second Grade Basketball League, student volunteer coordinator for the 84 Lumber Classic Golf Tournament, coordinator for the Cal U Sport Management Conference and Banquet, and group leader for the student work experience with Aramark at Heinz Field.
Dr. Taylor is an active member with the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), as well as the Society for the Study of Legal Aspects of Sport and Physical Activity (SSLASPA), and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD). His research interests include coach/administrator relations, sport commitment, and women and minorities in sport management academic programs.
Dr. Taylor, a native of Bennettsville, SC, resides in Centerville, PA with his wife Adrienne and their sons Aaron and Aidan.
