Professor Bruce D. Barnhart
Bruce D. Barnhart, EdD, ATC, PTA
Dr. Bruce Barnhart is a Professor in the Department of Health Science and Sport Studies. He has been a faculty member at California since 1984. He served as Program Director of the undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program from 1992 – 2006. He served as an assistant athletic trainer from 1984 - 2007 with a variety of sports at California including football, women’s basketball and men’s basketball. He was the athletic trainer for the 2004 women’s basketball National Championship team. Currently, Dr. Barnhart is the interim Clinical Coordinator for the undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program and an instructor in the Exercise Science, Athletic Training and Physical Therapist Assistant programs. He is the Outcomes Assessment Coordinator for the College of Education and Human Services and is the APSCUF Health and Welfare Specialist for the California campus.
Dr. Barnhart remains active in athletic training. He is a site visitor and review team member for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Additionally, he is the co-Chairperson of the Honors and Awards Committee of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society, Inc.
Dr. Barnhart is a three time alumnus (BS, MEd, AAS) of California University, ’83, ’89 and 2001. He earned a Doctor of Education degree in Professional Physical Education from West Virginia University in 1992.
Dr. Barnhart resides in nearby Brownsville, PA with his wife Mary Jo. They have two adult children, Ryan and Rebecca. Dr. Barnhart is a PIAA official in football, basketball, and baseball. He enjoys traveling with his family, summers at the beach and reading history.
