Professor Thomas F. West
Tom West, PhD, ATC a Professor in the Department of Health Science
and Sport Studies at California University of Pennsylvania. He is the director of the Graduate Athletic Training Education Program at California University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he teaches courses in the Exercise Science and Health Promotion graduate program and the undergraduate program in Wellness and Fitness.
Dr. West received his Bachelor of Science in Health Education/Athletic Training and PhD in Kinesiology from The Pennsylvania State University. He earned a Master of Science in Physical Education/Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Prior to coming to California University, he held the position of Associate Professor at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. At LHU, he served as the director of the Athletic Training Education Program and worked as an assistant athletic trainer. Dr. West has also held clinical athletic training and teaching positions at the Pennsylvania State University and George Washington University.
Dr. West has stayed active professionally in several ways. Currently, he is President of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society. He serves as a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Recently, he served for three years as the chair of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society Convention Committee. He has been a member of the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association Research Committee and Grant Review Subcommittee. He has presented at state, national and international conferences. He presented research results at the International Olympic Committee World Congress on Sports Sciences in Athens, Greece.
Dr. West is married to Ellen West, an athletic trainer and fellow faculty member at California. They have two boys, Tucker and Sam, and a daughter, Grace. In addition to playing with the kids, he enjoys traveling and golf.
