Associate Professor Linda Platt Meyer

Linda Platt Meyer, EdD, ATC, PES

Dr. Linda Platt Meyer, an Associate Professor, teaches a variety of athletic training, fitness, and leadership courses in the on-line Master’s program in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.  She is a Certified Athletic Trainer (BOC) and has her Performance Enhancement Specialist certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-PES). Further, she holds a permanent teaching certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Dr. Meyer earned her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Duquesne University, her master's degree in Education from West Virginia University, and her bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Athletic Training from Lock Haven State College.  Dr. Meyer is also an alumnus from Shanksville-Stonycreek High School. Prior to her employment at California University, she spent 14 years at Duquesne University as a founding faculty member in the undergraduate athletic training program.  She also brings nine years of experience as a teacher and certified athletic trainer in the Shade-Central City, Bellefonte, and Somerset School Districts, all in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

At the national level, Dr. Meyer’s professional service includes serving on two committees for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).  At the state level, she is on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society’s (PATS) and is the liaison to Special Olympics Pennsylvania.  She served as Team Pennsylvania and Team USA’s certified Athletic Trainer for five Special Olympics Summer and Winter World Games traveling to Salzburg, Austria, Anchorage, Alaska, and points in-between.  She continues to serve as a medical consultant to Special Olympics and coordinates the medical coverage for Pennsylvania’s State Winter Games.  Dr. Meyer’s community service includes serving St. Mark Lutheran Church in Shanksville, the American Cancer Society – Relay for Life for Somerset County, volunteering for the American Red Cross disaster relief team, American Heart Association – AED, CPR Instructor, and Red Kettle collections for the Salvation Army. 

Linda cherishes spending time with her husband Chris, 2 golden retrievers, and at weekend “Platt /Meyer family” gatherings. She is passionate about golf, water and snow skiing and has an extreme interest jazz and classical music.  She views herself as a life-long learner who continuously searches for new opportunities to expand her knowledge and skills in all dimensions of life.  She and her husband and dogs reside in South Fayette Township, PA during the week and Indian Lake, PA on weekends.
