Preschool
DescriptionThe Department operates a preschool four mornings a week for children 3 to 5 years of age. Children with and without communication disorders are accepted into the program. The preschool uses a language based curriculum that focuses on expressive and receptive language skills, pragmatics, social interaction, cognitive development, and early literacy. Each child is assessed throughout the year to measure progress in the areas of development outlined and parent conferences are held twice a year.
Children with communication disorders may receive group and/or individual speech and language therapy by graduate student clinicians under the supervision of the Director of the preschool. Graduate students are responsible for planning and implementing lessons and therapy sessions, as well as learning the required documentation for educationally-based programs. Undergraduate students also have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the preschool program.
Fees:
A small amount is charged to cover materials and supplies used by the children. However, this can be waived in cases of financial hardship.
