Program Overview:
The Communication Disorders Department (CMD) at California University of Pennsylvania is committed to providing, and training students to provide, state-of-the-art professional services for individuals with speech, language, and hearing disorders. To accomplish this, the Department offers:
Bachelor of Science in Education in Communication Disorders:
This undergraduate pre-professional program prepares individuals for study at the graduate level in Speech-Language Pathology, or other professional training program.
Master of Science in Communication Disorders:
The master's program in speech-language pathology at California University of PA is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard #310, Rockville, Maryland 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.
Graduates of this CAA-accredited program are qualified to provide professional Speech-Language Pathology services in both educational and healthcare settings. Upon successful completion of a post-graduation Clinical Fellowship, graduates are then eligible to apply for Certification and Licensure as Speech-Language Pathologists. A summer-only program is also available for individuals currently working in the field of Communication Disorders
Speech and Hearing Clinic:
Diagnostic and treatment services in speech, language, and hearing are provided to individuals of all ages. Members of the general public are welcome along with students, staff, and faculty of California University of Pennsylvania.
Preschool:
The Department operates a preschool four mornings a week for children ages 3 to 5 with and without communication disorders. The preschool is open to the general public. Children with communication disorders may receive individual and/or group speech and langauge therapy as part of the program.
Speech and Hearing Screenings:
The Department provides the required speech and hearing screenings for College of Education students preparing for student teaching. Screenings during University-sponsored health fairs and off-campus screenings at schools and facilities are also provided.
Speech and Hearing Club:
The Speech and Hearing Club, a chapter of the National Student Speech, Language, Hearing Association, is open to both undergraduate and graduate CMD students. Students participate in social, educational, fund-raising, and community service activities throughout the school year.
