Internships

Internships: Work experience in the field through internships and co-ops are available through a variety of options, with summer internships as U.S. Steel and  applications development as a classroom project for the Heinz History Center as examples for the computer sector.

Why I Chose Computer Science / Information Systems / Mathematics at Cal U?

William Schill - Math Major and Computer Science Minor

"When I started at Cal U, I was in a different major. I did not like it so I gave Math a try.  I was just going on a small whim that maybe I might like it enough for it to be a profession. I loved it and was very surprised that I was fairly good at it!  The math program here at Cal  offers excellent classes and wonderful professors.  The math professors here also know how to approach mathematics in a way that makes it understandable, and they like to show the full extent of what part of math, pure or applied, you are learning.

My advisor, Dr. Mohamed Benbourenane, guided me into the Computer Science minor mostly because it worked the best with my mathematics major.  I like the computer science area and couldn't be happier with another minor. The professors establish a great knowledge base for the program and although we are challeged and work hard, it is a great classroom experience.  With special thanks to Professor George Novak, I managed to acquire an excellent internship opportunity with US Steel.

The faculty at Cal U's Math and Computer Science Department has placed many opportunities in front of me, and I am grateful."

Richard Beal - Computer Science

"I like the Computer Science program because it has a solid foundational agenda.  The program focuses on the grasp of significant concepts, letting the minor details in the hands of us future programmers.  In addition, each class in the department is continuously integrated within the core of the program: computers, logic, and mathematics.  In closing, the departmental professors provide an enjoyable scholarly environment, solely targeting the minds of tomorrow, while both defining and implementing the true heart of the program."

"The Computer Club as Cal U has been revived as of the 2007 - 2008 school year.  We have had a gaming tournament with prizes and several small events such as movies and small video game debates.  We are also in the process of opening a computer help desk for the students on campus.  We have even more plans for the following year such as trips to computer museums, guest speakers, "how to" sessions, computer building programs, and everyones favorite: more gaming parties!  The computer club gives the students the chance to share knowledge with each other as well as make connections both inside and outside of campus for the future."
