Department of Earth Science Internships

Internships and Summer Research Opportunities

The faculty of the Earth Sciences Department strongly encourages and supports students in efforts to seek internships during their career at California University . Students typically seek internships during the summer between their sophomore and junior or junior and senior years.  The internship is designed to provide the student the opportunity to apply classroom theory to realistic, professional-level situations.  It is intended to give the student a concentrated practical experience at a progressive agency or orgainization.  The concepts and experiences acquired in the classroom are honed and fine-tuned at this level to prepare the student for his/her career undertaking.

Each summer many institutions around the country offer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs.  Many of these programs provide valuable opportunities to explore research and get a taste of what graduate school might be like.  In addition many programs offer housing and a summer stipend (salary).  Here is a link to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directory of Summer REU programs
