Chemistry and Physics Facility

New Science Center underwent complete renovation the mid 1980's. Laboratories remain in good condition from that renovation. Within the past five years three classrooms have been upgraded and are now equipped with air conditioning and multimedia systems that allow projection of computer monitor and video images on wall screens.

Recently, a "studio physics" facility was designed and equipped. This large room has 22 computer stations, each with probes and automated data capture to enable real-time collection and analysis of data. The facility is currently being used to deliver introductory physics courses with integrated laboratory and lecture. In such courses students make daily use of the computer stations, probes and software to discover and reinforce the fundamental principles of physics. The physics studio is also equipped with dual multimedia projection systems.

A new "studio chemistry" facility with state of the art intergration of lecture and laboratory course components will open in Fall 2008.

The Chemistry and Physics Department is equipped with materials, supplies and instruments for the instructional laboratories in its programs. In the chemistry area students will have an opportunity to do Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Column Gas Chromatography and Electro analytical Chemistry. Three brand new computer driven instruments include a UV/Visible Spectrophotometer, a Capillary Gas Chromatograph, and a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer.  A multidisciplinary nanoscience research area includes an atomic force microscope, spectroscopy and a visible/UV-fluorescence tissue-grade optical microscope with computerized image analysis.
