SAFETY AND SECURITY TRAINING - NOVEMBER 19, 2009

If you have an internship, co-op, studying abroad, or vacationing in 2010, we encourage you to participate in a Safety and Security Training on November 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Duda Hall, Room 202. This program is open to all students, faculty, and staff. It is being offered by Dr. John Cencich, Interim Dean, School of Graduate Studies, who wants to ensure that our university community remains safe during their experiences. The training is designed to minimize the possible risks students and others may face, such as muggings, assaults, fires, protests, or terrorist attacks whether they are here or abroad. Dr. Cencich, who is a retired Special Agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, has provided the same training for government employees. About the Internship Program

California University has identified internships as a major component of our students’ education.  An internship is a formal, for-credit arrangement designed to provide opportunities for students to study and experience professional career interests outside the classroom but under the supervision of California University.  During this experience, the student assumes a responsible role in an organization and actively reflects on what he or she is observing and learning.

Located only 30 miles from Pittsburgh, Cal U partners with a broad network of employers such as corporations, financial institutions, non-profit agencies, and a wide variety of other organizations to provide internships.

Our Mission Statement

To foster relationships and internship experiences that assist students in building character and careers.

Our Vision Statement

To be a nationally-recognized model of excellence and a place of inspiration -- partnering with faculty to encourage every deserving student in completing a quality internship, and assisting every interested employer in placing a highly-qualified intern, while broadening career opportunities and the potential for permanent employment relationships between students and employers.

Internships and Housing Considerations

Students who are contemplating an internship placement must carefully consider their residence options.  Leases and licenses for University housing are an academic year commitment. If you choose to live in University housing (Lower and Upper Campus), internship placements must be within commuting distance of campus. If not, you will be held financially responsible for the entire term of your housing commitment.  Questions regarding this issue should be addressed to the Housing Office at (724) 938-4444 or e-mailed to housing@cup.edu.
