Women's Studies Staff

Dr. Marta McClintock-Comeaux

Dr. Marta McClintock-Comeaux is the Director of Women's Studies at California University of PA. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Justice, Law and Society. Her research interests include the wide spectrum of social justice issues, and she is specifically interested in egalitarian couple relationships and work/family integration issues. Dr. MC teaches Introduction to Women's Studies, Advanced Women's Studies, The Family, Gender and Work, Cultural Views of Women, and Gender and Criminal Justice. She annually chairs the Audrey-Beth Fitch Women's Studies conference at Cal U.

Colleen Schmidt

Senior

Colleen is interning for Cal U’s Women’s Studies Department this fall.  Her major is in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and has also taken up a minor in Women’s Studies.  On campus, Colleen is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), Lambda Pi Eta- Sigma Rho Chapter, as well as the Cal U Art Club.  She also volunteers off-campus with the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh, an organization that encourages young people to become involved in historical preservation.  This past summer Colleen interned in Washington, D.C. for a public relations and marketing agency called Brotman Winter Fried Communications.  During her internship, she took on a variety of tasks and responsibilities.  Some of these duties included: creating media lists, writing press releases, promoting upcoming projects, assisting with public relations campaigns, as well as helping on-site at some of the events.  After Colleen graduates, she hopes to work for a public relations firm or gain experience in event planning.  Planning events, both at local/regional levels, is something Colleen has always envisioned doing.  To help reach her goal, she believes an internship with this department will not only provide her with valuable experience in coordinating events, but will also allow her to obtain greater leadership skills.

Ashley Brown

Senior
 
Ashley is a work study for Cal U's Women's Studies Department this year.  Her major is in History and has a minor in Women's Studies.  On campus she is involved in the History Club where she is treasurer, Peer Mentor  and  Student Activities Board.  She is also a Presidential Scholar, and member of Phi Alpha Theta.  This fall she was an Orientatoin Leader for Cal U for Life.  Over the summer Ashley interned for the National Park Service  at Fort Necessity National Battlefield where she did living history, gave guided tours and worked with the curator catolguing and preserving J.C. Harrington archeology papers.  After Ashley graduates she would like to attend Grad School for Public History or Museum Studies. 

Randis Doster
 

Junior

 

Randis has a work study position with the Cal U’s Women’s Studies Department this fall. Her major is in Art with a minor in Women’s Studies. On campus, Randis is a member of the Cal U Marching Band as well as a member of the Japanese Animation Club. After Randis graduates, she hopes to work for an animation company.

 

 

Amber Preston 
 

Sophomore
 

Amber Preston is a work study for Cal’s Women’s Studies Department this fall. She is majoring in Psychology with minors in Women’s Studies and Sociology. Amber is a volunteer with the Cal U Chapter of Best Buddies, which implements a friendship between a college student and a person with developmental or physical disabilities to create a diverse, life changing friendship. She also volunteers with the Laurel Region Big Brothers Big Sisters. Amber also maintains a part-time job at the JC Penney in Uniontown. After graduation, she plans on attending graduate school to get her Master’s to further her education. She plans to work with children.
