Q. When does a mentoring relationship usually start?
A. The mentoring department prefers to match a mentor with a protégé prior to the protégé attending Cal U. Therefore, the matches are usually made during the summer semester.
Q. How much time does it take to be a mentor?
A. Not much time at all. Minimally, we ask that you meet with your protégé prior to the beginning of the fall semester, send weekly emails to your protégé, assist them prior to registration, and near the end of the fall semester.
Q. What do I do if my protégé is not responding
A. Contact the mentoring department at mentoring@cup.edu. We will contact your protégé for you.
Q. What do I do if my mentor does not contact me?
A. If you are assigned a mentor and s/he has not contacted you, you will need to let the Mentoring Department know by contacting mentoring@cup.edu. We will contact the mentor for you.
Q. How long does mentor training last?
A. To become a mentor, you must attend a 2 hour training session. The purpose of the session is to provide you with information on your role and responsibilites as a mentor.
Q. What do I do if my protégé asks me a question and I don't know the answer?
A. Contact the Mentoring Department at mentoring@cup.edu. We have trained staff that can help you find the answer.
