Requirements and Applications
Requirements to be a mentorThe mentoring program is a departmentally-based program. Generally, we ask mentors have at least a 2.3 QPA, however, the mentor must meet the requirements of his/her academic department. Final selection to be a mentor will be completed by a designated faculty member in your academic department.
*Please note that Mentor applications are completed when a mentor attends the mandatory 2-hour training.
Requirements to have a mentor during your first year at Cal UMentors are available to all first semester students (both freshmen and transfer). However, the number of mentors available in each major is limited. Assignments are made on a first-come first-serve basis within each department. However, if a protégé does not follow the expectations and responsibilites of the program, the mentor will be reassigned to another first semester student.
