University Honors Program Perks
Perks

A scholastic, family-like environment
Honors Residence Hall
Honors students have the opportunity to live in Cal U’s new state-of-the-art residence hall, if they desire to live there. In the honors residence hall, honors students have easy access to computer labs and study rooms that are reserved exclusively for members of the UHP.
Furthermore, students who choose to live in the honors residence hall can participate in a special UHP community. First-year honors students can live and socialize with upperclassmen in the program, who can help guide first-year students through their UHP experience. Additionally, the UHP is housed in the honors hall, giving honors students easy access to UHP faculty, staff, and facilities. (All UHP students have access to the program’s facilities, regardless of where honors students are living.)
Early Registration
UHP students have the privilege of early registration. Honors students register for their courses before most other students enrolled at Cal U. In other words, honors students are likely to register for the classes they want, at the times they want, with the professors they want. Additionally, early registration assists honors students in fulfilling their college course requirements within four years.
PA-SSHE Summer Honors Program
Honors students at Cal U also have a unique opportunity to win the PA-SSHE summer honors program scholarship. Each year, one of the fourteen PA-SSHE universities host a summer honors program. During the summer program, 28 honors students from the fourteen PA-SSHE universities, two from each school, engage in approximately two weeks of study in a particular field. After engaging in courses at the host institution, the program continues its study for approximately two weeks abroad. Previous programs have included research and travel in England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, South Africa, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. The PA-SSHE summer honors program allows students to earn 6 HON credits, and all travel, tuition, room, board, and institutional fees are covered in the scholarship.
In 2007, California University is hosting Mirable Inventu. For more information please go to Mirabile Inventu
At Cal U, applicants for the PA-SSHE summer honors program are required to complete an application packet that includes a curriculum vitae, a statement of purpose, and three letters of reference. Next, the applicants go through an interview process, conducted by a committee of honors board members. Two scholarship winners and one to two alternates are then selected by the committee.
