1.  Activities  

Purpose:

  • To develop the organizational structure of the institute.
  • To convene meeting until such as there is an election of officers.
  • To coordinate the activities of the other subcommittees.
  • To provide administrative support until such time as an election of officers.

2.  Events

Purpose:

  • This subcommittee will plan "One or Two Big Events" for the Institute.
  • The purpose of the events will be to encourage and to increase awareness on the issue of multiculturalism throughout the various segments of the University. 
  • This will be accomplished by bringing in nationally recognized speakers and performers to campus.
  • This group will also work with other groups on campus to encourage better understanding of diversity by co-sponsoring their activities.

3.  Douglass Scholars 

Purpose:

This subcommittee will develop the process by which a limited number of Douglass Scholars will be chosen during the same session.This will include development of a criterion for selection: 

  • Negotiate with appropriate departmesnts for alternate of course for inclusion into the Scholar Program.  
  • Advertising of the program. 
  • Development of a budget for the Scholar Program.

4. A.R.T.S. (Advocacy, Research, Training, and Service)

This committee will develop activities in each of the four area:

  • To act as an advocate for greater multiculturalism
  • To conduct scholarly research on multiculturalism with the aid of faculty,  doctoral candidates (re:  Douglass Scholar), and graduate and undergraduate students
  • To conduct workshops and seminars for California University faculty on multiculturalism
  • Services, this will include outreach activities for the surrounding community including, but not limited, to public and non-public school teachers on multiculturalism and the development of a deeper appreciation of the value of diversity in our society.
