Faculty Professional Development Committee
Grants and Contracts Subcommittee
Grants are defined as money given for a specific purpose. In academia, faculty may receive grants for the performance of research, service projects, enhancing or developing pedagogical skills, and/or equipment and supplies needed to facilitate the aforementioned areas. Generally, grants are awarded based on the merit of a proposal written for said monies.
Purpose
The purpose of the Grants-and Contracts Subcommittee is:
- assisting faculty with finding appropriate funding sources;
- work to encourage faculty to write proposals to help meet contractual obligations for tenure and promotion;
- aid faculty in the writing process by taking part in the editing process in order to help faculty use appropriate content and writing style germane to grant proposal;
- sponsoring grant-writing workshops for faculty.
The Grants-and Contracts Subcommittee should be a resource on campus for faculty interested in finding independent funding for their professional development.
The subcommittee will consist of 8-10 members. Members will be recommended to the FPDC for approval by the subcommittee chair or co-chairs. Chairs should be faculty who are recognized by California University of PA as being experienced and excelling in the area of grant-writing. As the chairs choose additional members, similar criteria should be used. The term for membership to this committee is two years. The term for chair is also 2 years and elections should be handled by a sub-committee member who is not the current chair. Since subcommittee members will be actively reviewing and developing grant proposals for faculty, each member should have a successful history of getting proposals funded.
