Irene O'Brien Fund Closed for the 2009 – 2010 Funding Period 
 
The FPD Committee can no longer accept applications for the Irene O'Brien Fund for the 2009-2010 funding period since the limited amount of funds that are available from this account have been exhausted for the current year.  However, applications will again be accepted after July 1, 2010, for research projects/events occurring in the 2010-2011 funding period and eligible projects/events will again be funded through this account as long as funds are available.  Please apply as early as possible in the next fiscal year for these funds, since only a limited number of applications can be funded through this account.  

 Faculty Grants and Awards  

Applicants for all of the following grants and awards (other than the Internal Annual Grant) must complete the FPDC Grant Application and attach to this application any additional information as required by the guidelines of the FPDC program from which funds are being requested.

Internal Annual Grant:  The FPDC Internal Annual Grant Program is generally intended to provide grants for professional growth opportunities for individual faculty (although some RFPs call for teams or groups of faculty).

 

Continuing Excellence Fund:  The FPDC Continuing Excellence Fund provides ongoing support for faculty who have received previous support from the FPDC for projects repeated more than once.

 

Irene O'Brien Grant:  The purpose of the fund is to promote research or scholarship (up to a maximum of $250) that leads to publication or otherwise makes an academic contribution to the university or to the academic discipline.

Merit Award:  The Merit Award recognizes faculty who are currently engaged in exceptional research, teaching, or grant-writing or faculty who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to service and service-learning or display exceptional uses of technology. 

 

Small Grant:  The purpose of the small grants is to provide support (up to a maximum of $1000) for research, service and service-learning, teaching and advising activities, or use of technology in one of these areas at California University of Pennsylvania for the fall, spring, and summer terms.

AED Grant: The program awards competitive grants to faculty and staff who want to plan a learning community to foster academic excellence, intellectual rigor, and civil discourse. The theme for this year’s program is “Developing Innovative Learning Opportunities.” Proposed learning communities must be multidisciplinary, including students, staff, and faculty. A maximum of $5000 may be awarded for each proposal, not to exceed three funded projects.

Travel Award:  The FPDC travel fund will award full-time faculty up to $600 to travel to a conference or workshop.

  

 Vargo Award:  The Vargo Award recognizes faculty who have served as a faculty member at California University for at least 10 years and have demonstrated outstanding achievement across at least two of the three areas of teaching and learning, scholarly growth, and service and service learning and significant achievement in at least one other of these three areas.
