Disability Access

Commencement -- December 2009

  • Students with Disabilities: There are a substantial number of steps for general access to the Commencement Dinner and for the Commencement Processional.  Alternate access arrangements for these events and/or all other accommodation requests should be made to the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD), preferably by Monday, November 16, 2009. Contact OSD in person (Azorsky Hall Room 105) or by phone, (724) 938-5781.
  • Guests with Disabilities: Our guests are seated in order of arrival. Accommodations are not reserved but guests may direct advance inquiries about disability access to (724) 938-5781.

Hamer Hall Gymnasium (Friday, December 18, 2009 and Saturday, December 19, 2009)

  • Handicapped Parking: Guests with handicapped parking placards should proceed to Hamer Way and request further direction from a uniformed officer to the designated area.  
  • Interpreter: An interpreter is scheduled to be at the events.      
  • Personal Care Attendants/Disability Access Seating: Guests requiring attendant care may have one individual seated near them as designated by university personnel.
  • Floor Seating:  A limited area will be designated for our guests with their own mobility equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, etc.). Access the area by use of the elevator in the lobby.
  • Bleacher Seating/Lower Level: Seating does not require the use of steps. Access the area by use of the elevator in the lobby.
  • Bleacher Seating/Balcony Level: Seating does not require the use of steps. Access the area via the hallways at entrance/street level.
  • Assistive Listening Devices: Check out from personnel in the lobby. ID is required.

Natali Student Center (Saturday, December 19, 2009 only)

  • Handicapped Parking: Guests with handicapped parking placards may follow regular parking procedures.
  • Seating: The graduation ceremony will be shown on large screen (30' x 30') in the Performance Center. Seating with backed chairs will be available for guests.
  • Assistive Listening Devices: Available upon request.  ID is required.
