How to get email from home?

To access your campus email account, go to http://owamail.cup.edu.  This is our Microsoft Outlook Exchange website.  You will be prompted for your username (Be sure to put your email address in this field) and your windows password.  Click OK and you will be sent to your e-mail.

How to change password from home?

Access your email account as instructed previously.  On the right side, at the top, click the Options button.  Click the Change Password option on the left.  Fill in your old password then put in your new password and confirm the new password and click save

How to change password when on campus?

While logged onto a campus PC (not a Mac), press CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard.  Click the Change Password button.  Your username should be in the username field, and the Log On To field should say CALU.  Submit your old password, new password, and confirmation of your new password by filling them in and clicking Ok.  If you are using a MAC you will need to log onto a Windows PC in order to change your password.

What version of windows do we run?

Campus PCs operate on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.

What version of office do we run?

Campus PCs are all equipped with Microsoft Office 2007.  This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Sharepoint Designer, and Publisher.

What is the size of our email limit?

Faculty and staff are allotted 750 Mb and will receive warnings at 725 MB that their mailbox is approaching the maximum size. Students are allotted 450 Mb and will receive warnings at 425 MB that their mailbox is approaching the maximum sizeThere is a 10 Mb send limit.

How can I see how large my email folders are?

While in Microsoft Outlook 2007 on a campus computer, click the Folder List icon at the bottom of the left side.  At the bottom of your folder list, click the Folder Sizes link.  It will show you a list of each folder and their size.

Should my student workers log in using their own student account when working for me?

No, their supervisor should request that a special account be created for their use by filling out the appropriate form.  The Special Computer Account can be found in Public Folders under Faculty and Staff àForms.

Can I access my N drive when off campus?

Yes!  You can ftp to ndrives.cup.edu or navigate out to ftp://ndrives.cup.edu in an ftp capable web browser like Internet Explorer and when you are prompted for a username and password you would enter your campus email address and your email password.  For more info click Guides on the left side of this page.

Do I have the ability to create a .PDF file?

We are currently installing an add-on to MS Word that will allow you to convert an MS Word document to a .PDF file. However this will not give you the ability to edit a .PDF that you may already have.  To do that you would need to purchase Adobe Acrobat Professional.  Please contact the Helpdesk at X5911 for more purchase information.

Why can’t I attach a Microsoft Access file to my email?

 Due to the nature of Access files it is not a good idea to send them through email.  They are a perfect opportunity for viruses and other security threats to be distributed.  As a result campus security settings will not allow you to attach this type of file to your email messages.

I have a very large attachment, can I send it via email.

It depends on how large.  The email system will allow you to send an attachment that is smaller than 10mb (megabytes).  If your attachment is larger you may need to split it into two or more files and send them separately.

Can I filter junk mail with Outlook Web Access?

Yes.  though you cannot create your own rules in the web interface, you can activate the university server's junk mail filter.
Using your favorite browser, go to www.cup.edu or owamail.cup.edu to go directly to the web email interface.  Once you have connected to your email account, select options at the top right of your window.  Select Junk E-mail from the list of options on the left.  A list of various junk e-mail options will appear on the right side of the window.  Make sure that you’ve selected “Automatically filter junk e-mail” and that there is a check mark in the box in front of “Also trust email from my contacts”.  Click on the Save icon at the top of the window.  You have now successfully set your junk email filter.  Remember you will only need to do this once to set up junk email filtering.  You can now go back to checking your email.

How much space do I have on my N drive??

Faculty and Staff have 650 Mb (megabytes) of space and students have 450 Mb.

 Can I set up my email at home using Outlook Express or MS Outlook?

The university recommends and supports the use of Outlook Web Access (OWA) to view your email account when not on campus.  You should log onto https://owamail.cup.edu/ to check your email using outlook web access if you are off campus.  You can also set this up using IMAP with the following server information; however the university does not support this if you have problems:

  • URL is mobile.cup.edu

  • SMTP server is on Port 587 over SSL

  • IMAP server is on Port 993 over SSL

How often does my Windows login password need changed?

Your windows/email password expires every 90 days.

Will the new Microsoft Office 2007 open a file created in office 1997 or 2003?

Yes, opening the file will not be a problem.

Will older versions of Microsoft office open the 2007 version?

No, older versions will not open 2007 files.   However when creating the document in the 2007 version you have the option to save the document to open in older version. You can also get on Microsoft’s web site and download a compatibility pack that allows older versions to open 2007 documents on your home computer.

How do I log a support call with the help desk?

What kind of software can faculty, staff and students install?

Faculty, staff and students do not have permission to install any software on university owned computers.
If you need any software installed place a call to the help desk for a technician to install this software for you.
